Evelyn Pennington

Evelyn V. Pennington, age 88, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on May 24, 1925 to the late Robert William Barker and Velma Imogene Huggins Barker. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Pennington, who passed away on March 2, 2010; sisters: Eleanor Reece and Rebecca Rankins. Evelyn worked many years at the Mountain City Glove Plant and had also worked at Mountain City Elementary School. She loved to sew, quilt and crochet and had made many beautiful quilts, garments and crafts during her years. Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Melvin Bowers; sons and daughters-in-law: Oscar and Patricia Pennington and Thomas and Diana Pennington; sister, Betty Mains; grandchildren: Kim Bowers, Chrissy Bowers and Kenny Pennington; great grandchildren: Danielle Peters, Mitchell Peters, Tasja Thomas, Olivia Pennington and Chelsea Fraidley; great great grandchildren: Bentley Ray Peters, Kyleigh Raygon Horne and Mali Fraidley; special friend, Juanita Eggers; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steven Spencer to officiate. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Maude Farthing, Wanda Farthing, Joyce, Taylor Farthing, Nurses and Staff of Mountain City Care Center and all the CNA's on 200 Hall for their kindness and loving care.
