Mattie Vurbel Winebarger

Mattie Vurble Tester Winebarger, age 90, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born on August 23, 1923 to the late A.T. and Pearl Fletcher Tester. In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Earl Winebarger, son, Jerry Donald Winebarger; three sisters and one brother. Mattie was originally from Zionville, North Carolina and later lived in Bethel then Mountain City, Tennessee. She was lovingly known as Granny' to her family, friends and neighbors. Mattie was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by daughters and son-in-law: Mary Lee Tester and husband Larry and Jeanette Ward; son and daughter-in-law, Russell Winebarger Jr. and wife Brenda; sister-in-law, Nancy Fletcher; brother-in-law, J.C. Winebarger; special friend, Mildred Glenn; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steven Spencer and Minister Butch Reese to officiate. Music will be provided by Larry and Lockwood Cornett. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Mabel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Zionville, NC. Pallbearers will be her Grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Ray Gentry, Noah Click and Granddaughters.
