Charlie Schmidt, age 69, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on November 9, 1944 to Ruth Sheen Schmidt and the late Clarence Schmidt. Charlie was born in Cleveland, Ohio and resided in Cuyahoga Falls for 45 years, then transferred to Atlanta where he met and married Sylvia and upon retirement, moved to Mountain City, Tennessee, where he currently resided. He was a United States Navy Veteran. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing and had a special love for fly fishing. He also enjoyed working with wood and was a gifted craftsman who could build anything. For the last several years, Charlie's pride and joy have been his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with and spoiling. In addition to his mother, Ruth, Charlie is survived by his wife, Sylvia Schmidt; children: Christine Brantley and husband Brian, Michael Schmidt and wife Debbie, James Schmidt, Debbie Walker and husband Shane, Tammy Beal and husband Brian and Chuck Wilder; sisters: Marlene Bruno and husband Bob and Cindy Schmidt; brother, Allan Schmidt and wife Linda; grandchildren: Michael and Megan Schmidt, Harrison Criss and John Brantley, Rocky and Manuel Bishop, Candice Eisen, Scotty and Brandon Chamberland, Bailey, Garrett and Gavin Wilder; great grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler, Aleanna, Daylan, Alex and Avery and many special friends. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor David Hankal to officiate. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Military Honors will follow and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
