Joseph Claude' Gregg, age 81, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Watauga Medical Center of Boone, North Carolina. He was born on July 30, 1932 in Butler to the late Thomas Clayburn Gregg and Bertha Melinda Perkins Gregg. In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Clark Gregg. Claude lived a very simple, full-filling life on his family farm. He was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church, where he served as janitor for many years and also assisted in the maintenance of the church cemetery. He was always there and willing to help at the church, whether it was for a wedding, VBS, revival, funeral or the annual Triathlon. Claude was very knowledgeable of the history in his area and many people would call upon him for assistance. He lived his life by the golden rule.. " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Claude is survived by his brother and best friend, Charlie Gregg and wife Mary; niece, Robin Roberts and husband Tim; nephews, Scott Gregg and wife Misty and Doug Gregg; great niece, Jayla Gregg; great nephew, Jamie Roberts and many, many special friends. Abiding by Claude's wishes, he will be cremated and no formal services will be held. For those who wish, the family will receive friends at the home of Claude's brother, Charlie, 7302 Old U.S. Hwy 421, Zionville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Claude's memory may be made to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Mack Hollaway, 8978 Big Dry Run Road, Butler, TN 37640 or 925 Sugar Grove Church Road, Butler, TN 37640.
