Carroll E. Stout

Carroll E. Stout, age 88, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital following an extended illness. He was a Johnson County native born August 3, 1925, a son of the late Asa and Eula Proffitt Stout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Asa Stout, Jr., Chalmas Stout, and Lowell Stout. He was a graduate of the Watauga Academy and was a World War II veteran having served in the Marine Corps. He retired from Burlington Industries. He was a member of the Doe Valley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 for fifty-nine years. Carroll is survived by his loving wife of 67 and ½ years, Alice Hicks Stout of the home, daughter, Linda Stansbery of Mountain City, TN, sons Dennis Stout and wife Kathy of Mountain City, TN, and Wayne Stout and wife Judy of Elizabethton, TN, sister, Pat Long and husband J.R. of Shady Valley, TN, grandchildren Mitchell Stansbery and wife Penny, Stephani Jarnigan and husband Josh, and Michael Stout, great-grandchildren, Carlisle and Jansen Jarnigan, and Joe Stansbery, special friends, Hilah Coleman and Gail Miller, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Thomason officiating. Masonic Rites will be presented by Taylorsville F&AM #243. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. Music for the funeral service will be provided by Josh Jarnigan. The committal service and interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Military Rites will be presented by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Bob Stansbery, Tony Rhudy, Edmond Manuel grandsons Mitchell Stansbery and Michael Stout, and grandson-in-law Josh Jarnigan. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all doctors, nurses, and staff of the James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital for the special care given during his illness. Memorials in Carroll's memory may be made to Doe Valley United Methodist Church, in care of Dorothy Shoemake, 597 Rabbit Hollow Lane, Mountain City, TN 37683.
