Beulah Oliver, age 83, of Mountain City, Tennessee and Big Laurel in Creston, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia. She was born on July 25, 1930 in Johnson County to the late James and Lura Reece. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ned Oliver; her sister, Della Crowe and four brothers, Walt, Robert, Carl and Kermit Reece. Beulah attended Big Laurel Church of Christ for many years. Beulah was a devoted daughter, wonderful wife and exceptional mother. She loved Mountain City, TN and her home on the Oliver Triple 'O Farm, in Creston, NC. The farm name represented the unity of Ned, Beulah and Jim. Beulah was known for being a very strong and determined person. She loved fashion and home decorating....her skills in these areas are legendary. Beulah had a gift for making a lovely home and she maintained her homes in an outstanding and stylish condition. After having her son, Jim, Beulah's primary occupation was as a homemaker. Before that she worked at Farmers State Bank and has been close with the people there ever since. She was also a skilled business person in her own right and worked on many business endeavors with her husband, Ned. In particular, they built and operated the Mountain Empire Motel. Beulah's devotion to her community, whether in TN or NC, is well known; she made it a priority to always make time for others and help anyone in need. Beulah was married to Ned and enjoyed the many adventures that farm life brought, by his side. They also enjoyed traveling together. She was an outstanding mother to Jim and is often quoted as saying, "Having Jim was a dream." She and Jim shared a close relationship and a deep friendship. She has been an inspiration to her daughter-in-law, Jessica. Beulah was also overjoyed with her two grandchildren, Jacquelyn and Jenson. Survivors include her son, Jim Oliver and wife, Jessica of Athens, GA; sister, Arna Mae Hodge of Mountain City; brother, Bill Reece and wife Mary Nell of Mountain City; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Reece Oliver and Jenson August Oliver; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews and her many, many special friends. Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Graybeal officiating. Music will be provided by Fred Ramsey. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Lloyd Miller, Wayne Patrick, Larry Reece, Dale Greer, Jim Crowe and Gary Goodin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Goodin, Gordon Hodge, Bill Reece, Ray Crowe, Charles Oliver, Bill Wynne, John Richardson, Mike Reece, Kenneth Oliver, John Reece, Rick Reece, Gary Reece, Shane Reece, Jim Reece, Tommy Reece, Rodney Reece, Roddy Reece and her many special friends. Beulah will be laid to rest following the funeral service at the Oliver Family Cemetery in Creston, NC on the Oliver Family Triple O' Farm. The family will receive friends immediately after the funeral service at Oliver family farm, 1116 Big Laurel Road, Creston, NC.
