Dewayne Lawson, age 35, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Johnson County Community Hospital. He was born in Watauga County, NC on June 8, 1979 to Samuel Lawson and Gail Hicks Lawson. He was a very loving father, husband, brother, and son. He dearly loved spending time with his boys. He enjoyed coaching basketball, hunting and church activities. He was a very hardworking family man. Dewayne was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a special sister-in-law, Tabitha Bumgardner, his grandfather, Howard "Bud" Hicks, and grandparents John and Zella Lawson. Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Crystle Bumgardner Lawson, two sons, Joseph Lawson and Skylar Lawson, his father, Samuel Lawson, his mother, Gail Hicks Horne and husband Rob, one sister, Christy Luckett and husband Joey, grandmother, Janie Hicks, father-in-law Gary "Peanut" Bumgardner and wife Kim, mother-in-law Shonnie May and husband Wallie, nieces, Macey and Maelie, nephew, Mason, several aunts and uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Billy Morefield officiating. The committal service and burial will follow at Trade United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Doug Hicks, Joey Luckett, Donald Martin, Willie Brabham, Leon Henley, Mark Dunn, Doug Eldreth, Wallie May, Michael Bumgardner, and Dave Garland. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Russom, Steve Triplett, Jonathan Triplett, Josh Hicks, and Johnny Hollars. The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 PM prior to the funeral service.
