Charles Ray Self, age 64, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on May 18, 1950 to the late Dwight and Reathy Devinney Self. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two brothers: Jerry Self and William Self. Charles was a Correctional Office at the Northeast Correctional Complex. He owned and operated an upholstery business for many years, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Charles was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed going fishing. His pride and joy was his grandchildren. Charles was a United States Army Veteran and honorably served in Vietnam. He was of the Lutheran Faith. Charles is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy Allen Self; daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Scott Johnson; sons and daughters-in-law: Brian and Evelyn Allen and Kristopher Charles and Lisa Self; sisters: Joan Elmore and husband Ray, Diane Lofton and Mavis Bumgardner; brothers: Homer Self, Larry Self and wife Denalta, Roy Self and wife Trudy and Kenneth Self; grandchildren: Amberli Clinebell, Manuel Johnson, Gabrielle Johnson, Elisha Johnson, Esaias Johnson, Sam Allen, Todd Cross, Abby Self, Caden Self, Konner Self and Karli Self; special Chihuahua, Sadie; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Mountain City Baptist Church with Pastor Joseph Griffis to officiate. Special music will be provided by Pastor Joseph Griffis and wife Hope. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service. Graveside service and interment will follow from the Reece Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
