Obituary for Wesley V.A. (Vernon) Waters, Sr. Mr. Wesley Vernon Arthur Waters, Sr., age 91 passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in War, West Virginia the son of the late William Clinton Waters and Bertha Hamby Waters. He was one of 12 children and was the last survivor of his family. He was also preceded in death by his wife Sarah Gladys Forrester Waters who passed away in 2012. The two of them made a life together for 64 years and raised the two son's in Damascus. He was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and lived in this area his entire life. Vernon as he liked to be called, served as a Trustee for the Backer Park in 1958 and also served on the Damascus Town Council for 6 years where he served the people as Vice Mayor. He served on the Washington County Planning Commission for 8 years and also served on Board of Directors of the Washington County Park Authority for 18 years. He was a member of the Liberty Hall Masonic Lodge 104 and a Shriner since 1973. He was past president of Desert Sands Shrine Club of Washington County. In his younger days he played baseball for the Damascus Beavers for 5 years. He was a member of the Damascus Citizen Club since 1947 and served all that time as Secretary and Treasurer of the club. He gave of his time and served as the official Santa Claus for 44 years before turning over his Santa outfit and duties to Mr. Bill McKee. He served Damascus as the Town Clerk for 16 Years. He was always involved in the community and truly never passed on an opportunity to speak to someone and to make sure that you attended the Citizen Club meetings. (Vernon) Waters, Sr. Mr. Wesley Vernon Arthur Waters, Sr., age 91 passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in War, West Virginia the son of the late William Clinton Waters and Bertha Hamby Waters. He was one of 12 children and was the last survivor of his family. He was also preceded in death by his wife Sarah Gladys Forrester Waters who passed away in 2012. The two of them made a life together for 64 years and raised the two son's in Damascus. He was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and lived in this area his entire life. Vernon as he liked to be called, served as a Trustee for the Backer Park in 1958 and also served on the Damascus Town Council for 6 years where he served the people as Vice Mayor. He served on the Washington County Planning Commission for 8 years and also served on Board of Directors of the Washington County Park Authority for 18 years. He was a member of the Liberty Hall Masonic Lodge 104 and a Shriner since 1973. He was past president of Desert Sands Shrine Club of Washington County. In his younger days he played baseball for the Damascus Beavers for 5 years. He was a member of the Damascus Citizen Club since 1947 and served all that time as Secretary and Treasurer of the club. He gave of his time and served as the official Santa Claus for 44 years before turning over his Santa outfit and duties to Mr. Bill McKee. He served Damascus as the Town Clerk for 16 Years. He was always involved in the community and truly never passed on an opportunity to speak to someone and to make sure that you attended the Citizen Club meetings.
