Robert Garland South, age 80, of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born April 1, 1934 in Taylors Valley, VA to the late John Smith South and Pearl Elizabeth Chambers South. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Stacy South, and by several brothers and sisters. Robert loved coon hunting, fishing and woodworking. His greatest joy was playing with his great-grandchildren. After years of service with a job he truly loved Robert retired from The Blue Ridge Parkway in Blowing Rock, NC. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nancy South, Daughters Vickie Statzer and husband Joseph, and Kimberly South Eller, Granddaughter Kelly Jewess and husband Zachary, Great Granddaughter Sabra Grace Jewess and one Great Grandson due in February, one sister, Maxine Wilson and special nieces and nephew Angela South Campbell, Pamela South Brabson, and Tommy South. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday November 24, 2014 from the Acre Field Cemetery with Pastor Mike Bowers to officiate. Pallbearers will be Evan Taylor, Tommy South, Johnny Dickens, Joseph Statzer, Zachary Jewess, and Bob Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean and Ann Thomas, Eric and Debbie Taylor, LeAnn and Mary Beth Taylor, Don Thomas, Dean Fletcher, and Michael Christian. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Acre Field Cemetery Fund in Care of Lee Hawkins, 1920 Gentry Creek Rd., Laurel Bloomery, TN.
