Cora Canter Lewis

Cora Canter Lewis, age 92, of the Pine Mountain Community, TN-NC line; went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on February 11, 1922 in Johnson County to the late Charlie Canter and Inez Eggers Canter. In addition to her parents, Cora was preceded in death by her husband Ray R. Lewis; sons: Bill Lewis, Bob Lewis, and Mike Lewis; grandchildren: John Steven Barlow, Kelly Graef and Sean Lewis; son-in-law, John Barlow; and sisters, Elsie, Mae and Dora; brothers, Bert, Mark, Bill and Doran. Cora loved her family and spending time with them. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was a devout Christian and was known for lovingly taking care of others until age 86. Cora was born and raised in Shouns, TN before moving in 1941 to Chester County, PA and then moving back to the beloved Pine Mountain in 1983. She was a member of Green Valley Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Betty J. Barlow and Geraldine Graef and husband George; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great- great -grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joyce Lewis; several nieces and nephews and special terrier: Brandy. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastors Ricky Mitchell and Ted Lewis to officiate. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 8, 2015 from the Hampton Lewis Cemetery on Pine Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Stephens, Paul Barlow, Johnathan Stephens, Charles Sturgill, Norman Price and Lynn Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Flor, Glenn Graef, George Graef and Glen Hallman.
