Emma L. Stanbery, age 74, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 29, 1940 to Gladys Calloway Peeks and the late William Edgar Peeks. Emma retired following a career in the U.S. Government at the FBI Headquarters in Washington, FBI Field Office in San Franciso, Naval Oceanographic and U.S. Census Office. Emma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law and was a friend to all. She was a very kind and gentle person; a classy lady from the first degree. She was a member of Shady Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, Gladys, Emma is survived by her husband of 53 years, Howard Stanbery, son and daughter-in-law, David and Stacie Stanbery; sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley and Hubert Stanbery and Joyce and Alan Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Sandy Peeks; grandchildren: Kali Stanbery and Lindsey Stanbery and one niece and several nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Stout and Pastor Herman Crumley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bryan Stanbery,Danny Hill, Brad Stanbery, Eric Stanbery, Scotty Leftwich, Nick D'Amato, Jody Leftwich, McKinley Stanbery and Timothy Stanbery. Honorary pallbearers are Nursing Staff in the CCU Unit at Johnston Memorial Hospital, especially RN Kimberly Crosby.
