Mary Ann Dickens

Mary Ann Dickens, age 70 of Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 17, 1944 to the late Bell and Nell Eller. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by one grandchild; her sister and brother-in-law, Oma and Lee Norris; brother, Delmer Eller; special sister-in-law, Mary Ann Guy and her husband Burl Guy; brother-in-law, John Brown. Mary Ann loved cooking for her family and was known by many for her delicious biscuits and apple pies. She enjoyed watching gospel shows and gospel music on television and loved to watch Wheel of Fortune. During the summer months, she loved going with her daughters on their Saturday adventures of finding a good yard sale. Mary Ann and her husband Shot lived a very simple life. They were not consumed by this world's materialistic things. They always said they had what they needed and that was enough. The two of them had a love for each other that you don't see a lot of anymore. When they would struggle with life's trials and tribulations, she would always say God has got this.' Mary Ann was blessed with her babies', a granddaughter, MaKenzie and two great grandsons, Brayden and Bobby, that have been her pride and joy for the last 5 years. She was a member and attended Pleasant View Christian Church. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 52 years, Shot Dickens; their children: Barbara Long, Eddie Dickens, Johnny Dickens, Kim Taylor and husband Bobby, Kenneth Dickens and wife Carla and Annie Dickens and friend Dallas Keenan; grandchildren: Nancy Reece and friend Jonathan Roark, Trevor Reece and friend Teresa, Andy Lewis and wife Brittney, Mary Sexton, Amanda Long, Matthew Dickens and friend Tina and MaKenzie Dickens; great grandchildren: Brayden Dickens and Bobby Sexton; special sister, Myrtle Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bob and Joann Eller and Jack and June Eller; sisters-in-law: June Stanley and Lou McElyea and husband Lewis; brother-in-law, Ira Dickens and wife Louise; special niece, Melissa Sis' (Guy) Taylor, special friends: Mike Austin, Mike Lewis and Deneece and Vic Butler; many more special nieces and nephews; her church families at Pleasant View Christian Church and Southside Freewill Baptist Church. A Service Celebrating the Life of Mary Ann will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Pleasant View Christian Church with Pastor Gary Bowman and Neal Reagan officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Reece Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mary Ann's sons, Eddie, Johnny and Kenneth Dickens, son-in-law, Bobby Taylor, nephew, Wayne Guy and dear friend, Richard Hammons and Dallas Kennan. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions in Mary Ann's memory be made to the Johnson County Cancer Support Group, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 N., Mountain City, TN 37683. All funds sent to this organization stays in Johnson County. They have been wonderful to Mary Ann and so many other families that have fought this cruel disease. The family would like to express their appreciation and love to Mary's sister, Myrtle, who has stayed with Mary day and night along with Mary's Children, helping Shot care for her. The family would also like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. James Shine, Nurse Kathleen and entire staff; Dr. J. Shankar and Staff, Amedisys Hospice, especially Angie and Weatherly, and their entire Staff and Richard Hammons for all of their kindness and loving care and for treating Mary Ann like family. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
