Carrie Lena Garland

Carrie Lena Garland, age 84, of Shady Valley, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. She was born July 5, 1930 in Gary, West Virginia to the late Walter Hill and Alice Shepherd Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Brown, and by two brothers, Cecil Hill and A.J. Hill. Mrs. Garland was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed being with and caring for her family, especially preparing wonderful meals for them. She also enjoyed raising vegetables in her garden. Mrs. Garland studied her Bible regularly and was active in her Church. She was fortunate to be able to live close to her granddaughter, Cindy, whom she loved playing with. She was a member of Shady Valley Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, R.D. Garland, daughters Janet Nolan and husband Jim, of Ohio, and Judy Cretsinger and husband Kevin, of Shady Valley; sons, Scotty Garland and wife Janine of Chattanooga, TN, and Ken Garland of Shady Valley; sisters Azona Blevins of Shady Valley, Hazel Watkins and husband Jim, of Ohio, and Annabell Manning, of Ohio; brother, Joe Hill and wife Cathy, of Mountain City; grandchildren Jim Nolan, Jr. and wife Aida, April Pollack and husband Tom, Josh Garland, and Cindy Jones; great-grandchildren, Eric Nolan, Jim Nolan III, Aiden Nolan, Brittany Ramos, and Jacqueline Sauder; great-great-grandchild, Noah Sauder, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, April 6, 2015 from the Shady Valley Church of Christ with Vergil Cretsinger and Jim Sherman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 prior to the funeral service. The interment service and burial will follow from Blevins Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lonnie Long, Chris Watson, Rick Garland, Eric Hill, Tim Blevins, and Jimmy Watkins, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Jess Wagner, Haskell McQueen, Tim Pruitt, Roger Blevins, and Rick Bowers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shady Valley Church of Christ, 700 Hwy. 133, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
