Pastor Norman Colvard Reece, age 77, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 6, 2015 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born May 15, 1937 in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late D.B. Reece and Viola Hopkins Reece. He attended local schooling until 1955 when he graduated from high school. Following high school, Pastor Norm attended one year of college before entering the United States Army in 1956, where he was stationed for 6 months in Fort Carson, Colorado, training as a sniper and rifle range, obtaining medals for accuracy. After training school, he returned to Johnson County and married Barbara Shupe on March 13, 1957. He reenlisted for another 3 years term of service, which changed to Guided Missile school in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He later attended Crei Capital Radio School and National Radio Institute, gaining employment at Ace TV in Springfield, where he was inspired to open his first TV Shop in 1996. While living in Woodbridge, Virginia, Pastor Norm and Barbara were members of First Baptist Church of Woodbridge, where in 1981, he was ordained into the ministry. He was the Youth Pastor and later was involved with a team of Pastors that were preaching all over the US and internationally. Pastor Norm attended Liberty Mountain Bible College and specialized in Greek theology. In 1971, Pastor Norm and his family moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia and remained there until 1996, when he and Barb decided to retire and move back to Mountain City. Upon their return, they opened a local business and Pastor Norm was blessed to become the Pastor of his hometown church, First Baptist Church of Mountain City. He pastored there for 5 years, and then in 2003 he became Pastor of Butler Baptist Church, until he became fully retired in 2005-2006. Pastor Norm also enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, his airplanes; modeling and building from childhood and was also a champion in micro-planes. Most of all Pastor Norm loved the Lord and having his family around him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Joan Shupe Reece of the home; son, Norman Bud' Reece and special friend Michele; daughters: Debra Reece King and husband Robert and Barbara Quante Simpson, all of Mountain City, TN; brother and best friend, Daniel B. and wife Jan Reece of Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Sue Treadway and her husband Jimmy of Newton, NC; five grandchildren: Victoria Wilson (Josh) of Fairfax, VA, Norman Reece and special friend Alaina of Johnson City, TN; Patrick Christman (Nicki) of Pulaski, TN and Charles R. Chase' Simpson of Mountain City, TN; Mister Benjamin D. Reece and Miss Grace L. Reece; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Campbell, Pastor Ron Drake and Pastor Jim Norman officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. -:1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside Service and Interment with Military Honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard, will follow at the Reece Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zak Barber, Norman C. Buddy' Reece III, Chase Simpson, Robert King, Patrick Christman, Jamie Cress, Josh Wilson and Jim Gilley. Honorary pallbearers are the Members of Mountain City First Baptist Church Fellowship Class and all of Pastor Norm's special friends. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Debra and Robert, 842 Rhea Road, Mountain City, TN.
