Cecil Odell Farmer, age 90, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was born on May 30, 1924, in Wyco, West Virginia to the late Carl Farmer and Lillie Denny Farmer. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Farmer; sisters: Minnie Bell Harlow, Helen Franklin, and a brother, Haden Farmer. Cecil worked in the coal mines for several years in West Virginia and then worked for A.J. Stalcup in many locations around this area at A.J.'s sawmills. It was not unusual on Saturday's to find Cecil setting in town at the Food Country parking lot talking to his pals. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-laws: Carliss and Lynn Farmer of State Road, NC and Brian and Lori Farmer of Grand Island, NY; daughter, JoAnn Greer of West Jefferson, NC; longtime special friend and caregiver, Bonnie Wittenberg; sister: Betty Jean and husband Wayne Ward of Mountain City, TN; brother, Harold Farmer and wife Evelyn of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren: Carl Farmer of Fairfax, VA, Dan Farmer and wife Sara of Syracuse, NY, Shannon Farmer of Buffalo, NY, Claudia Triplett and David Wilcox, both of West Jefferson, NC; great grandson, Sean Farmer of Syracuse, NY; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Mountain City Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Shoun-McEwen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carl Farmer, Richard Wittenberg, Richie Wittenberg, Wayne Ward, Larry Franklin, Dan Farmer and Sidney Farmer. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Eldreth, Randolph Dugger, Jay Williams and Earl Farmer.
