James Roy Martin, age 94, of Zionville, NC, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born on September 14, 1920 in Johnson County, Trade, TN to the late Thomas Alexander Martin and Nancy Elizabeth Wallace Martin. In addition to his parents, James Roy was preceded in death by sisters: Eula Laird, Ola Barney, Ella Wilson and Rosa Leach; brother, Luther Martin and great-granddaughter, Madison Carolista Ayers. James Roy was a United States Air Force Veteran having served in World War II. He served as Postmaster for 23 years at the Zionville, NC Post Office. He was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM for over 50 years. James Roy was a member of Zionville Baptist Church and served as Deacon and Church Clerk for many years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Pearl Wilson Martin; son and daughter-in-law, Wallace James (Wally) Martin and wife Cheryl of Zionville, NC; brother, Asa Martin of Zionville, NC; grandchildren: Candace Martin Ayers and husband Adam of Zionville, NC and James Charles Martin and wife Lisa of Kingsport, TN; great grandchildren: Makenzie and Savannah Martin, Bailey Ayers, Shayna, Cayden and Keyton Watt and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2-3:00 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Zionville Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Dwayne Tester to officiate. Graveside Service and entombment will follow at the Zionville Baptist Church Mausoleum with Military Honors accorded by the American Legion Post #130. Pallbearers will be David Pardue, Ron Elliot, Mark Wallace, Kent Coffey, Archy Wallace and Jeff Love.
