Allen Junior 'J.R.' Stout

Allen Junior J.R.' Stout, age 59, of Vilas, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Watauga Medical Center. He was born on August 5, 1955 to Betty Davis Stout and the late Farris Junior Stout. In addition to his father, J.R. was preceded in death by a sister, Crystal Dawn Stout. J.R. was a retired officer of the Watauga County Sheriff's Department, where he enjoyed working for many years. He loved playing with his grandchildren and making up silly songs with them. J.R. enjoyed working outdoors and was always concerned about keeping his yard mowed. J.R. was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Beaver Dam Fire Department and the Watauga County Rescue Squad. In addition to his mother, Betty Stout, J.R. is survived by his wife of 27 years, Hazel Stout; daughter, April and husband Calvin Gunter; son, Michael Ferguson and wife Jessica; sister, Linda Miller; brother, Paul Stout and fiancé, Shelia Watson; grandchildren: Nathan Lane, Shannon Ferguson, Aaron Ferguson, Amy Gunter and Daniel Gunter and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Beaver Dam Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Brown to officiate. Special music will be provided by the Church Choir. Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Lower Beaver Dam Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edward Lane, Alex Wilson, Zack Wilson, Randy Townsend, Terry Scott, Steven Moody, John Fullen, Tim "Bull" Wilson, Floyd Hicks and James Sherwood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o David Scott, 3476 Mountain Dale Road, Vilas, NC 28692. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 4140 Mountain Dale Road, Vilas, NC 28692.
