Jack McCoy, age 71, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on December 1, 1943 in Ashe County, North Carolina to Mary Lee Joines McCoy and the late J.D. McCoy. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his grandson T.J. Johnson. Jack was a husband, father, brother and friend. His smile will be missed by many. Jack loved camping with friends and family, riding horses and taking care of his cattle. He retired from the Johnson County Highway department after 38 of service. Jack accepted Christ as a young teenager at Big Laurel Baptist Church. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Kate Lewis McCoy; mother: Mary Lee McCoy of Creston, NC; daughters: Jeanne Johnson and husband Bill of Mountain City, Amanda Hamm and husband Brian of Lansing, NC; sister: Evelyn Scott of West Jefferson; brothers: Bill McCoy of Creston, NC and Walter McCoy of West Jefferson, NC; grandchildren: Callie Dickens and Karlee Hamm; great grandchild: Chloe Johnson; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Thursday October 15, 2015 at Mountain City Funeral Home with funeral service following at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor David Lyalls to officiate. Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Dunn Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Stout, Carl Stout, Gary Stout, Reise Stout, Larry Nichols, Sam Keys, Wes Hamm and Eddie Stansberry. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Taylor, Dr. Griffin, Charlie Joines, Bill Johnson, Jim Neely and Herbert Joines. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home 5323 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, TN 37683 Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mountaincityfh.com.
