Gayther W. 'John' Blevins

 Gayther W. ‘John’ Blevins, age 95, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Hillview Nursing Home in Elizabethton, Tennessee.  He was born on June 6, 1920, in Johnson County, Shady Valley, Tennessee, to the late George Ray Blevins and Martha Elizabeth Cress Blevins. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Craddock Blevins; three sisters:  Luna Mays, Ruth Lewis and Winnie Laws: six brothers:  Charlie H., Selmer, Wheeler H., Carl, Luther and Homer Blevins.   John was a United States Army Veteran having served in World War II. He worked as a night watchman at the shoe plant for several years. John was known by many around the Johnson County Senior Citizens Center because he attended there and the activities there for years. He was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years.     He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mae Pierce Blevins; one brother, Cline Ray Blevins and wife Mary of Shady Valley, TN; two step daughters:  Janice McCloud and husband Lloyd and Barbara Perry and husband Eddie; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.   The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon with Pastor Ricky Campbell to officiate.  Graveside Service and Interment will follow the funeral service from the Mountain Home National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with Military Honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be friends and the Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers are Dearl Swift, Jim Davis, Lillard Blevins, Kenneth Blevins, Gene Cook and Eugene ‘Peanut’ Swift.   In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607   The family will receive friends at the home 1273 Swift Hollow Rd.
