Mr. Bruce R. Simcox

  Mr. Bruce Ray Simcox, age 94, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2015 at his residence. He was born on July 5, 1921 to the late Tom and Nettie Greene Simcox.  In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Belva Louise Geagley Simcox; sisters:  Dorothy Fritts, Mamie Marion and Juanita Simcox and a brother, Robert Shelton Simcox.   Bruce was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was pastor for many years in the Johnson County area. The churches he was privileged to serve included New Hope Baptist Church, Dyson Grove Baptist Church, Walnut Grove Baptist Church and Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters: Phyllis Miller and husband, Buzz, Jonesborough, TN, Annis Jessee, Vivian Simcox and Sherry Shull and husband, John, all of Mountain City, TN; sister, Ruth Norris, Greensboro, NC; grandchildren: Darrell Hammons, DeAnna and Jerry Waters, Sonya Roark, Eric and Stephanie Townsend, Jennifer and Daniel Dickens and Aaron Shull; great-grandchildren, Alexis Jessee, Elijah and Abigail Dickens, Karleigh Townsend, Autumn Roark and Kolby and Ethan Waters. The funeral service for Bruce will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN with Pastor Jim Norman officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Joe Simcox, Ms. Glenda Koger, Ms. Carolyn Vaughn and Mr. Buzz Miller. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with committal offered by Bill Worley. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Darrell Hammons, Eric Townsend, Aaron Shull, Daniel Dickens and Jerry Waters, and nephew, Dirk Simcox. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce’s fellow ministers and their spouses. The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 pm. prior to the funeral at the church. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 3385 Roan Creek Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
