  Melvin Bowers, age 67, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016 at his home. He was born on December 4, 1948 to the late Eston and Stella Mullins Bowers. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Nichols and his special little dogs: Scrappy and Roxy.   Melvin retired from the Town of Mountain City, where he was an electrician. He also worked part-time at the police department and rescue squad, which he truly enjoyed. Melvin loved spending time with his family and friends, especially Freddie Arnold and Robert Isaacs. Melvin would often travel with Freddie to music events and help out with the sound system.   Melvin was a member of Doe Valley Baptist Church. He loved his church very much and enjoyed going every time that he could.   He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Pennington Bowers; daughters: Christine Bowers and Kimberly Bowers; sisters: Lucille Jones and husband Danny; half-sisters: Sandy Garland, Patsy Dunn and husband Dennis and Linda Sutherland and husband Ronnie; brother, Ernest Bowers and wife Vicky; grandchildren: Mitchell Peters and Danielle Peters; great grandchildren: Bentley Ray Peters and Kyleigh Horne; several cousins, nieces and nephews.   The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Roy Dowell officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Freddie Arnold, Robert Isaacs, Terry Reece, and Bob Eller.   For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.   At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 111 Holy View Lane, Mountain City, TN.   Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mountaincityfh.com.   The family of Melvin Bowers has entrusted his services to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S.
