Phillip Ray ‘PR’ Bunton, age 69, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016. He was born on March 12, 1947 to the late Mr. Carroll Bunton and Carfie Vaughn Bunton. In addition to his parents, PR was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Bunton and a brother-in-law, Raymond McGuire. PR was a former member of the Johnson County Rescue Squad, Mountain City Fire Department, former employee of the Mountain City Police Department, Damascus City Police, and was former Chief of Police of Glade Springs, VA. He was also a former employee of Iron Mountain Construction. PR was a current employee of Maymead, driving truck No TK-12-01. PR had a special love for photography. He also enjoyed fishing and collecting guns. He was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church. PR is survived by his children: Melodie Bunton of Mountain City, TN, Justin Bunton and wife Jessica of Lansing, NC, Wesley Bunton and wife Theresa of Abingdon, MD; sisters: Linda Bunton McGuire and Janie Bunton Nelson and husband Tom, all of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren: Matthew Bunton, Skylar Bunton, Hannah Bunton and Jude Bunton; special great niece, Hope Nelson; special aunt, Carol June Dean of Akron, OH; special friend, S.K. Davis and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service for PR will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Greene to officiate. Graveside service and inurnment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ray Greene and Rev. Don Winters officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the Johnson County Rescue Squad, Maymead employees, owners and employees of Mountain City Pawn Shop, S.K. ‘Suki’ Davis, Ronnie ‘Tiny’ Laws, Glen Robinson, Darrell Reece, Jim Icenhour, and Carl Hastings. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in PR’s memory may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Janie Nelson, 2611 Cold Springs Road, Mountain City, TN.
