Ramon S. Britts Ramon S. Britts, age 81, passed away on July 2, 2016, at home on his wife’s family farm in Shady Valley, TN, after a long illness. Ramon was born on September 23, 1934, to the late Raymond and Retta Rosenbaum Britts in Roanoke, VA. He had a long career in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, after which he became a well-known consultant for patent attorneys across the nation who sought his assistance and expertise. He was proud of his military service in the U.S. Army, having served in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. Following graduation from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1961, Ramon accepted a position with the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. It was during this time that he became interested in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and soon ventured to Washington, D.C., where he became employed. Ramon enjoyed participating in most outdoor sports and excelled at skiing, biking and hiking. He always kept a basketball in his car for impromptu games everywhere he went. He loved adventure travel and enjoyed many trips to Europe and Asia. A cherished vacation spot was Sunset Beach, NC, where he and his family looked forward to going each summer for nearly 40 years. He loved all animals, and enjoyed long walks with the family’s dogs, often lingering in the woods to watch deer and other wildlife. In addition to his parents, Ramon was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Britts Hickman, and his stepmother Sula Britts. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen Blevins Britts, his daughter Jennifer Britts Connors, his son Eric L. Britts, a sister, Sunya Britts Fleming, his brother, Parker William (Bill) Britts, and several nieces and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Graveside services and interment will follow at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens (formerly Gentry Cemetery), A reception will be held at Shady Valley Presbyterian Church following the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Eric L. Britts, Bill Britts, James Woods, Wally Gray, Larry Gentry, Brian Hutchinson, and Gerald Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Shady Valley Fire Department and First Responders. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 242 Orchard Road, Shady Valley, TN.
