Winnie Opal Phillips, age 91, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 6, 1925 to the late Henry and Belva Cardwell Fletcher. In addition to her parents, Winnie was preceded in death by her husband Earl C. Phillips; a daughter, Margie Maxwell; sisters: Mavis Rainbolt, Dorothy Potter and Annie Bradley; brothers: Charles Fletcher, Paul Fletcher, Walt Fletcher and Carol Fletcher; grandchildren: Adam Mark Brown and Randy Kevin Brown; and sons-in-law: David Hampton and Bonell Smith.   Winnie was a member of Dyson Grove Baptist Church.   Winnie was a great cook! She owned and operated her own restaurant for many years where she shared her love of cooking with her family and community. Like most women of her generation, Winnie was a hard worker. When she wasn’t working at her restaurant, you could find her in the tobacco fields and gardens. She also enjoyed raising many flowers. Winnie loved to sew and has made many, many beautiful quilts through the years for her family and friends.   Those left to cherish Winnie’s memories include her children: Annis Louise Smith, Emma Jean Hampton, Janice Rose Brown and James ‘Jim’ Earl Phillips, all of Butler, TN; sister, Mary Lee Potter of Gray, TN; grandchildren: Johnny Whaley, Emberly Dominguez, Angela Scalf, Carl Hatley, Beth Garland, Cindy Kern, Mindy Phillips and Michael Pennington; sixteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.   The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Dyson Grove Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Leonard Fletcher and Pastor Greg Thompson officiating. Special music will be provided by the Dyson Grove Baptist Church Choir and Fletcher Family. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Fletcher Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Kern, Billy Wilson, Johnny Whaley, Carl Hatley, Frank Dominguez and Eric Garland. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Laws, Junior Potter, Keith Brown and Dean Fletcher.   At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 3361 Little Dry Run Road, Butler, TN.   Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mountaincityfh.com.   The family of Winnie Opal Phillips has entrusted her services to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S. Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
