On October 20, 2016, Judith M. (Judy) Heerschap (age 74) joined our Heavenly Father, while surrounded by her family at Johnson City Medical Center. Devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, confidant and mentor; Judy leaves behind a legacy of friendships, charity and good will that will be missed by so many. Daughter of Leslie and Myrtle Senior she was born March 18,1942 and grew up in Haledon & Paterson New Jersey. Judy married the love of her life, Walter Jacob Heerschap on July 21, 1962 and they started their new life in Oakhurst, NJ where she was an active part of the community until she moved with Walt to their new home in the close-knit community of Mountain City TN in 2004, where she enjoyed her many crafts and hobbies with her new extended family. Judy graduated East Side High School (Paterson, NJ) and attended classes at Monmouth University. She was an Administrative Assistant at Monmouth Medical Center (NJ), Secretary to the Principal at Monmouth Regional High School (NJ), and Corrections Officer/Supervisor at the Johnson County Jail (TN). While living in NJ Judy was the first woman member of the Oakhurst (Volunteer) First Aid Squad, the first woman Captain, serving two terms, and their first woman Lifetime member. She was a Chairperson of the 16th District New Jersey State First Aid Council. In Tennessee, she became an active member of the Mountain City First United Methodist Church, the church choir and the United Methodist Women. Judy was a member of the Johnson County Newcomers Club, First Tuesday Bunko Group, and Johnson County Humane Society. Judy love being creative; she enjoyed crafting, knitting, jewelry making and had recently began to oil paint, where she had been awarded several ribbons for her work. She also loved attending the performances at Heritage Hall, Mountain City, Concerts in the Park, Blowing Rock North Carolina and Barter Theater in Abingdon Virginia. Judy leaves behind her loving husband and soulmate of 54 years Walter J. Heerschap, Daughter Yvonne Caruso (Joseph) of Davenport FL, son Mark Heerschap (Sharon) of Summerville, SC, Grandchildren John Robert, Emily Mae and Gabriel Michael Heerschap, niece Wendy Toledo and nephew David Wagoner and many special friends. She is predeceased by her parents Leslie & Myrtle Senior, Sister Ruth Wagoner, and grandchildren Christopher James Heerschap and Tessa Tymothi Montague. Honorary Pallbearers are First United Methodist Church Choir and the First Tuesday Bunko Group. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church.
