Ronald Windsor (Ron) Ausherman of Mountain City, TN passed away after a long series of illnesses on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the age of 71. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Windsor Strube Ausherman and Dottie (Sara Vivian) Ausherman. His parents died in 1996 just 5 days apart and served as a symbol of love and respect to Ron and all who knew them. Ron was their only child. Ron is survived by his wife, Babs Ausherman (known as Miss Babs from early in their relationship) and his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Ausherman Baum and Kevin Baum, as well as 3 grandchildren, Jacob Windsor Baum, Amber Baum, and Kyle Baum, all of Orange City, FL; nephew, Mason Pillow of Ohio, as well as many other nephews and nieces. His “sisters from another mother” include Sandy Mason, Gail Lunsford-Bardwell, and Brenda Lunsford Lilly all of the Asheville, NC area. Ron grew up in Leicester and West Asheville, NC and spent much of his youth dreaming of moving somewhere else that was bigger and better. After living in a number of places in the United States including Illinois and Florida, he returned to the mountains not far from where he grew up. He was happy to return to a simpler, quieter life. After attending A-B Tech in Asheville, he began his career as a draftsman, later becoming an engineer with Sherwood Medical in Deland, FL and St. Louis, MO. He ended his working career as the VP of Operations at Phoenix Medical in Mountain City, TN in 2008. Ron served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a disabled veteran. Ron loved to laugh and always tried to put a smile on everyone’s face. And everyone who knew Ron also knew how much he loved his dogs. Over the years, Ron and Babs adopted a number of rescues from a number of sources. Donations to Rescue Dog and End of Life Sanctuary here in Mountain City, TN http://www.rescuedogandendoflifesanctuary.org/home.html are preferred to flowers. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:15 p.m. on Monday, November 7 at Mountain City Funeral Home followed by a gathering of friends and family for a memorial remembrance from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mountaincityfh.com.
