Rev. Carl Davis Swift

Rev. Carl Davis Swift, age 75, of Mountain City, TN passed away Wednesday morning, November 9, 2016 at Mountain City Care Center. Rev. Swift was born in Mountain City, TN on March 8, 1941 to the late Roby Howard and Ruth Bunton Swift. He retired in 2011 from the Johnson County School System where he worked with special needs students who loved him dearly and affectionately referred to him as “Big Dada”. He was ordained in 1971 and spent the next 45 years as an evangelist, singer spreading the gospel of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved to fish and play golf until his health no longer allowed him to do so, then he loved to tell stories oh his days on the lake or the golf course. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Billy Ray Swift. Rev. Swift is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Mary Ruth Lewis Swift, one daughter Carla Swift Wyatt and husband Ronnie of West Jefferson, one son Michael Ray Swift and wife Kim of Mountain City, TN, one brother David Howard Swift and wife JoAnn of Summerville, SC. Special in-laws Jay and Sara Blevins of Lansing. Two grandchildren Tiffany Wyatt Hayes and husband CJ and Ethan Arveson Wyatt, three great-grandchildren Malakai Hayes, Lyric Hayes, and Elias Hayes all of West Jefferson along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2pm at Smethport Baptist Church with Rev. Lloyd Day, Rev. David Testerman, Rev. Rick Thomason, and Rev. Steven Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the Kemp-Lewis Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 6-8pm at Central Baptist Church in Mountain City, TN, and a visitation on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 12-2pm at Smethport Baptist Church.
