Robert Shelton Shepherd

  Robert Shelton Shepherd, age 78, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday evening, May 8, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center.  He was born February 14, 1939 in Johnson County, TN to the late Ray Shepherd and Polly Wallace Shepherd.  In addition to his parents, Shelton was preceded in death by a brother, Hiley Shepherd; daughter-in-law, Linda Shepherd.   Shelton loved to be outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting ginseng.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He had a special love of animals and loved his dogs very much.  Shelton was a faithful member of Appalachian Church of Christ.  He loved his church, his church family and his pastor, Minister Buddy Morefield, deeply.   Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Rutter Shepherd; sons:  Billy Ray Shepherd and special friend Norma Laws and Robert Stewart Shepherd; sister, Janice Eller; brother, Wayne Shepherd and wife Glenda; step granddaughter, Lisa Burrell; step great granddaughter, Amber Burrell, Sara Burrell and Paige Lipford; step great grandson, George Burrell; his dogs, Buddy, Harley and Sissy.   Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Buddy Morefield officiating.  Special music will be provided by the Church.  Honorary pallbearers are the Men of Appalachian Church of Christ.  The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. prior to the service.   It was Shelton’s wishes to be cremated following the funeral and there will be no formal graveside.   At other times the  family will receive friends at the home, 120 Mary St., Mountain City, TN 37683.
