Lizzie Stanbery, age 98, of Elizabethton, Tennessee and formerly of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Hermitage Health Center. She was born on January 11, 1919 to the late John and Elmina Dugger Greenwell. In addition to her parents, Lizzie was preceded in death by her husband Audie ‘Dick’ Stanbery; son, Johnny ‘Pete’ Greenwell; sisters: Mae Fletcher and Ruby Norman and brothers: Dewey, Author, Wiley, Tine, Woodrow and George Greenwell. Lizzie was a simple person with a good work ethic, integrity and good country values. She was very caring and enjoyed taking care of people and helping those in need. She loved to work in her garden and cook. More than anything, Lizzie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memories include her children: Mary Campbell and husband Jim and J.R. Stanbery and wife Lucille; grandchildren: Becky Jones and husband Terry, Christal Stanbery and Missy Lambert and husband Shane; great grandchildren: Kelby Jones, Alyssa Lambert and Jack Able; several nieces and nephews and her many friends at Hermitage Health Center. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Mountain View Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow with Pastor Lynn Hicks officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Stanbery Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the entire staff of Hermitage Health Care for their kindness and care given to Lizzie. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made in Lizzie’s memory to the charity of your choice.
