Darlene Wood

Darlene Florance Wood, age 81, of Creston, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Watauga Medical Center.  She was born on March 5, 1936 to the late Charlie and Callie Mayberry Wood.  In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by an infant son, Tommy Wood; sisters:  Iva Lee Hoosier and Dolla Sapp and brothers:  James Wood, Vaugh Wood , Howard Wood and R.D. Wood. Darlene was a quite person who had lived alone since her brother’s passing in 1995.  She loved little children and enjoyed working in her flowers. Those left to cherish her memories include her sister-in-law, Helen Wood; several nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Big Laurel Christian Union Church with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Darrell Graybeal officiating.  Graveside service and interment will follow at the Calhoun Cemetery (Big Springs, NC).  Pallbearers will be Mike Roten, Jim Hoosier, Roy Trivett, Roger Trivett, Mark Hoosier and Nathanial Hoosier.  Honorary pallbearer is Charlie Ray Wood. The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Watauga Medical Center for all of their kindness and loving care.
