Doris "Dot" Vernelle Porter Church went to her calling on Monday, July 31, 2017, just shy of her 100th birthday. Doris Vernelle Porter was born to Guy and "Tommie" Porter on November 18, 1917 in Harmony, Arkansas. She was the last of seven children to be called. In her younger years, "Dot" resided on a farm in northwestern Arkansas, later met and married John E. Church. A wife, mother of three and homemaker, she and John raised their children in Fort Worth, where she and the family remained active in the Methodist Church of Lake Worth which is now Lighthouse Fellowship. Her family was important to her, as well as her church family where she remained active until her health declined. During an exemplary life she mothered and nurtured many, both in her home and in her church. Doris and John never forgot their ties to their church families, not just in Lake Worth but also in Farmington, AR and Mabel NC. Survivors include her three children, Gloria Jeanne Lechler and husband Byron of North Richland Hills, TX, John Stephen Church and wife Sherry of Fort Worth, TX and Niley Monroe Church and wife Marilyn of Wichita Falls, KS; 6 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2017 at Lighthouse Fellowship of Texas. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home of Ft. Worth, Tx. A funeral service will also be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Mabel United Methodist Church of Mable/Zionville, NC. Interment will follow at the Moretz Cemetery, North Carolina. Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse Fellowship or Hospice of Fort Worth. Biggers Funeral Home of Ft. Worth Texas and Mountain City Funeral Home of Mountain City, TN are serving the Church Family.
