Charles Alton Scott

Charles Alton Scott, age 87, of Shady Valley, TN went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.  He was born February 21, 1930 to the late Winfield Scott and Jennie Wood Scott.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Reece, Taylor, Ronald, Wade, and Hugh and four sisters, Wilma, Okra, Irene, and Belva. He is survived by his loving wife and friend of 51 years, Dorothy Jenkins Scott, one stepdaughter, Lorrie Ann Shumate and husband John, one sister, Glenna Barton and husband Bill, a special brother-in-law, Carroll Jenkins and wife Eloise, and several nieces and nephews.  Charles special friends included Tom Reece, Dick Grayson and Brian Hutchinson who were very faithful to visit him and bring him his favorite treats and Dr. Enuf. Charles loved nothing more than telling a good story.  He could talk for hours about his life growing up in Shady Valley and it was incredibly interesting to all who heard it.  It seemed that he could remember everyone that he had ever met and could tell a story about each of them.  He was a member of Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. Charles was very proud of his home and lawn.  It seemed that he was very happy when riding his mower for hours.  Charles held many jobs in his life including working at an automobile manufacturing plant in Michigan, Monroe Calculating Plant in Bristol, Burlington Industries in Mountain City, Ford Tractor Sales and Service in Shady Valley, and the Tennessee State Highway Department from which he retired. He was a United States Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at 5:00 PM from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Stevens and Tom Reece officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 prior to the service.  Military rites will follow and will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shady Valley Fire Department, in care of Kenneth McQueen at 134 McQueen Road, Shady Valley, TN  37688.
