Opal Jordan Eggers, age 93, died peacefully on February 6, 2018 at her home at the Galleria Woods, Birmingham, AL. She was born October 6, 1924 in Johnson County, TN to Hedrick and Lily Bruce Jordan. She graduated from Johnson County High School where she played basketball. From there she lived all over the country and Europe with her husband, William Butler Eggers, who served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force. They retired to Montgomery, Alabama in 1967. Opal was a descendant of Isaac Shoun, son of Leonard and Barbara Shoun who settled in Johnson County in 1792. She enjoyed attending the annual reunions of the Shoun-Shown-Shawn Family Association. Opal enjoyed quilting and knitting and won ribbons at the Alabama State Fair for her work. She also spent many years volunteering for the Red Cross. Opal is survived by her three children, Jeanni Wilson of West Palm Beach, FL, Lary Eggers of Williams, OR, and Philip (Elaine) Eggers of Hoover, AL; one sister, Mary (Pete) Peters of Winter Haven, FL; grandchildren Rhonda A. Hunt of Culpepper, VA and Isaac A. Eggers of Hoover, AL; and great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and her good friend and caregiver Valencia Nelson. Family and friends will gather to pay final respects with a viewing and visitation on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mountain City Funeral Home (224 S Church St. Mountain City, TN 37683, 423-727-9700). At 2:00 p.m. there will be a graveside service at Wilson Cemetery off Swift Hollow Road (Turn off Hwy 67W by the Dewey Christian Church). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charity.
