Earl Farmer

  Earl Thomas Farmer, age 84, of Forge Creek, Tennessee, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center.  He was born on November 4, 1933 to the late Lela and Clarence Farmer of Creston, North Carolina.   In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by sisters, Jewel Seltzer and Beulah Head and brothers, Welze Farmer, Bernard Farmer, and Carl Farmer. He was an army veteran of the Korean War.  Earl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He especially loved to visit the Senior Center and passed his time playing rook and solitaire.  He was a member of Hammons Chapel Christian Church and American Legion Post #61.  In earlier years, Earl grew tobacco and sold used cars.  He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone.  Among those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Farmer, sons, Randy Farmer and wife Betty of Damascus, Virginia, Rick Farmer and partner Lawrence Dietrich of New York, NY, daughter, Rita Horne and the late Mike Horne of Wetumpka, AL, grandchildren, Jared and Matthew Horne of Wetumpka, AL, Casey Sutherland and husband Blake of Mountain City, TN, great grandchildren, Chloe and Addie Sutherland, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many special friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Josh Giddings officiating.  Special music will be provided by Rick Farmer and the Backroad Bluegrass Boys.  Graveside service and interment with military honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Sunset Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Kenny Head, Junior Miller, Terry Hedrick, Blake Sutherland, Walter Simcox and Robbie Timbs.  Honorary pallbearers are Jesse Walsh, Elmer Hammons, Paul Hammons, Ron Martin, Stan Ahrends, Carl Williams, Carl Farmer, Delmer Tedder, Timmy Taylor and Frank Kennedy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Johnson County Senior Citizen Center for the purchase of a new van, 128 College Street, Mountain City, TN 37683. At other times the family will receive friends at the home, 4407 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, TN 37683. Condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.mountaincityfh.com.
